Gatlinburg will be in for a surprise treat this upcoming weekend. It rarely snows in the winter until late January or February (sometimes March), but multiple sources, including The Weather Channel, are all calling for snow in the mountains – up top and down in the valley.

Few things are as cherished here in the Smokies as an early snowfall and Baskins Creek would like you to enjoy this winter treat responsibly. Snow and ice can be genuine hazards in the hills if the proper precautions are not met and no one should have to worry about that when there is winter fun to be had.

Our recommendations are as follows:

- Check your tire quality and make sure they have good enough traction. Consider putting chains on the wheels as they will be the most helpful in driving on potentially frozen snow.

- Double check your rental location and directions. If you’ve never been to Gatlinburg, some of our back roads can be twisting and difficult in the snow, and the less you drive on unfamiliar frozen roads, the better.

- Keep an emergency kit in the car should something happen.

- Keep an eye on The Weather Channel whenever available (www.weather.com) and an ear on 105.5 FM – Sevier County’s local radio station. Make your plans accordingly.

Nothing adds magic to the mountains like snow and we’re more than happy to help facilitate that treat into a wonderous vacation experience for you. Please be responsible and enjoy your time at Baskin’s Creek in the Smoky Mountains!
